Pathway to Living, based in Chicago, has named Julie Ackley as director of its A Knew Day memory support program. Previously, she served as customer relationship manager for iN2L, a technology company creating en- gagement programs for people with dementia and cognitive impairment.

Dallas-based Pegasus Se- nior Living has named Alex Germain-Robin as Southeast regional director of operations. He has been a part of the industry since 2008, in various roles such


as executive director, multi-site executive direc- tor, and vice president of operations from na- tional operators. He graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor of science in hospi- tality and tourism management. In addition, at Town Village Crossing, a Pegasus community in Arlington, Texas, Tommy Saxon has been named executive director. Saxon has been in the senior living industry since 2013, in leader- ship positions such as general manager and area director of sales and marketing.


RCare, Inc., based in Webster, N.Y., was se- lected winner of the 2019 Security Solutions Award for their nurse call off erings and their recent integration with Alexa voice technology. The award is given based on how the devices perform in real-life fi eld deployments. RCare has also announced four new executive team members. To support its product expansion, RCare has brought on Nick Garofoli as oper- ations manager. He is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and ADKAR trained. Niels Coch, with a decade of experience in healthcare technology, is now business development and sales man- ager. New on the product support engineer- ing team are Kaiser Clipston and Nathaniel “Navy” Keith.


Maria Kauten, a veteran with Irvine, Ca- lif.-based Silverado, will be community ad- ministrator at the company’s new memory care community in Brea, Calif. The two-story Brea community is designed specifi cally to maximize quality of life for as many as 70 people with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and other mem- ory-impairing conditions. The new community is the fourth Silverado community in Orange County.

Ashburn, Va.’s Walton- wood Ashburn, of the West Bloomfi eld, Mich.- based Singh Senior Living company, has named Chris Leinauer executive direc- tor. He has been executive director at two senior liv- ing communities and was most recently a regional vice president responsible for 29 senior living proper- ties across fi ve regions. Ma- ria Cressida R. Manalo was named resident care man- ager at Waltonwood Ash- burn. She has more than fi ve years of experience in senior living and has served as a charge nurse, RN supervisor, and most recently director of nurs- ing service. Also at Wal- tonwood Ashburn, Megan Mastre has been named memory care coordinator. She has nearly 15 years of senior living experience, beginning her career as a CNA. She previously was director of health and wellness. At Waltonwood Lake Boone, a community with 121 independent liv- ing, 39 assisted living, and 23 memory care residenc- es in Raleigh, N.C., four new team members were named. A highly decorated U.S. Army veteran of 30 years, he joined ProMatura in 2015. As a strategic leader, he managed operations of the company, improving culture for employees and business and product management.

Debra A. Cafaro, chairman and CEO of Chicago-based Ventas, Inc., has for the sixth consecutive year been named as one of Har- vard Business Review’s Top 100 Best Performing CEOs in the World. Ranked at #29, this is Ca- faro’s highest achieved placement on the list. She is one of only 14 global CEOs who have been named to HBR’s list consistently since 2014 and is the highest ranked female for the fi nancial performance metric. Cafaro has led Ventas for more than 20 years.

The California Assisted Living Association (CALA), based in Sacramento, Calif., has published a guide focused on helping eliminate age-bias in communication. Elevate Aging Through Language: A Usage and Style Guide is available on the CALA website (caassistedliving.org). It identifi es words and phrases that perpetuate ageist views and sug- gests replacements that promote positive views of aging. In addition, the guide covers the use of an inclu- sive, person-centered philosophy of communication, which is important to preserving dignity for older adults.
