BRIGHTVIEW SHELTON

Pastoral Views and Fresh Ice Cream

Farm-to-table and small farming are a contemporary trend, but one with a long record of appeal. A lush landscape, grazing ani- mals, and red barns have an enduring ability to evoke a sense of peace and the comforts of home. Brightview Shelton residents can enjoy this at a glance. Not

only are they welcome to enjoy the wonderful views of the ad- jacent working farm, but they can also visit the farm’s creamery to enjoy some ice cream. The community’s contemporary farmhouse style was inspired by Wells Hollow Farm, next door. A local landmark, it dates to

the early 1900s. Wells Hollow Creamery, an ice cream shop, was added in 2007. The farm also sells hay and seasonal items such as flowers and vegetables. The farm and creamery are within walking distance of the community, making it possible for residents and their families to visit. Designers maximized the views: They oriented the apart-

ments and common areas to face the farm and used bay win- dows in the apartments. “Residents can literally see the cows from the building,” says Erik Anderson, of design/build firm PROCON. “It’s nice.”
