26. The Sheridan at Birmingham, Birmingham, Mich., Harley Ellis Devereaux. Built right against the lot line, with large windows open to the street, The Sheridan at Birmingham brings activities to the street front. The contemporary de- sign shines in an urban setting without sacrifi cing comfort.
27. Watercrest Columbia, Columbia, S.C., LifeBUILT Archi- tecture. Light played an important role in the design of the project. Advanced lighting controls in the common ame- nity area and corridors allow the tailoring of light levels to specifi c activities. Varying light levels throughout the day improve residents’ sleep/wake cycles while ensuring that constant light levels are maintained for safety.
28. Windsor at Celebration, Celebration, Fla., Gensler. Situat- ed on nine acres just south of Walt Disney World, the proj- ect includes cutting-edge technology, communal public spaces, and a mix of elegance and adventure. Residents can view Disney’s fi reworks nightly from the rooftop bar.
29. Woodland Terrace of New Palestine, New Palestine, Ind., Justus Companies. Nestled in a tranquil, rural setting, Woodland Terrace is a pedestrian-friendly community with walking trails and scenic views. Among its ameni- ties is a state-of-the-art fi tness center which is fully staff ed with certifi ed fi tness coordinators who provide wellness assessments and personalized workout plans.
