WINNER: COLLABORATION AWARD COMMITMENT TO SKILLS AWARD

Julie Borland Assistant accountant

I’ve been here since 1985 and the company’s been excellent to work for. I was really pleased that we won the two awards, but especially winning the Commitment to Skills Award as I have an apprentice who is doing an AAT accountancy course and it’s been a pleasure to see that in action.

DENNIS EAGLE SET TO SOAR WHAT BEING A RED ROSE WINNER MEANS TO US

‘If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again’ – that mantra has paid off for the Blackpool based cab manufacturer of refuse collection vehicles, Dennis Eagle.

One of the biggest manufacturers in Lancashire, picked up the Collaboration and Commitment to Skills categories in this year’s Red Rose Awards.

Oli Minett, Plant Manager at Blackpool, explains that the business was a finalist in three of the awards categories in 2024 but unfortunately weren’t successful. So, it was a case of “going again for 2025.”

Minett says: “This year’s wins are massive for everyone! It’s about raising the profile of Dennis Eagle and getting recognition for the hard work and dedication of our employees, whilst putting Blackpool on the map.”

The Burton Road site in Blackpool has been manufacturing and supplying cabs to Dennis Eagle’s Warwick headquarters since 1990.

The main core focus of the business is to ‘continue to build innovative refuse collection vehicles, for safer, cleaner, communities.’

Tony Jones, Materials manager at the plant, says ‘exciting times’ lie ahead.

Jones added: “There have been improvements in all departments across the company and I think this has made a positive impact to everyone working here.

“We have a team of people that care about the product and make sure the best one is produced.

“The company is ready to grow. You can see that in the number of cabs we are producing. We know we can do even more and we’re all committed to doing that.”

WHAT THE JUDGES SAID It is truly brilliant to see how

the waste lorry visiting schools is educating young people about sustainability in an engaging way. Dennis Eagle brought skills, learning and development to life with their staff testimonial interviews.

It is a very good place to work with

lots of employee benefits and is very close to where I live.

Winning is a great achievement for all of us and also good for the local community. The management team put on a food truck to celebrate winning the awards as a way to show their appreciation to everyone, which was really nice and enjoyed by all.

Jak Good Assembly line operative

It’s brilliant that we have won the awards! I started as an electrical apprentice, and I was the first one that had been taken on here in Blackpool. It is a great place to work and I’ve been here 14 and a half years now. Dennis Eagle has been really supportive in helping me with my professional development to get me the best qualification and training I need for my job. The company is flourishing!
