The term ‘net zero’ has become a hot topic in recent years as governments, businesses and individuals strive to reduce their carbon footprints.
However, as the conversation around net zero grows so do the myths and misconceptions surrounding it.
Some believe net zero means eliminating all emissions, while others think it’s just a PR stunt or a misguided political move that will make us all worse off.
However, champions of sustainability are increasingly pointing to the business case surrounding sustainability. They stress it is not just about saving the planet it also saves businesses money.
Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) worry that achieving net zero is financially out of reach.
However, experts say that reducing emissions can lead to long-term cost savings through energy efficiency, improved resource management and increased customer loyalty. They stress that going on the green journey can help the bottom line.
Another common concern is that net zero policies will stifle economic growth. Again, sustainability champions argue the transition to a low-carbon economy presents significant economic opportunities.
They say the shift towards net zero is not a barrier to economic growth – it’s an essential part of future-proofing economies and businesses alike.
Michael Dugdale, managing director of Blackpool based Trident Utilities, believes it is time to bust some of the myths.
