SPOTLIGHT Margaret Speight

Head of marketing and communications North Star Projects

SUB36

Dave in discussion at Lancashire Business Day

large businesses that can get scared and hold on their purse strings very tight.

“I don’t have much downtime. I still have the weekends and get down to see Rossendale Rugby Club and, when I can, I get onto the Turf to watch Burnley.”

And he adds: “There’s only one thing more important to me than business and that’s the family.

“It’s the reason why I wanted to set up in business. It gives me a platform to be able to look after my family and give them a certain lifestyle.”

+24 has 20 employees including full-time contractors and Dave has high hopes for the future. He says: “We used to be known as +24 Marketing but now we’re +24 because of the software development that we do.

“We provide really unique software for lots of different businesses whether they are in the manufacturing, logistics or service sectors. We also offer crucial infrastructure software in lots of businesses.

“That’s very much a growth area for us and something we want to promote more.

“I have huge ambitions to take the business further, as we work nationally and a little bit internationally.”

What does he think is the secret of his success so far and what advice would he give to business owners and entrepreneurs? “Don’t think too much about things and go for it. The number of times where I’ve regretted not following my gut… your gut always knows best!”

At 17, my photography was exhibited at London’s Strand Gallery, chosen from more than 10,000 entries as part of the Economic and Social Research Council’s ‘Where do I belong?’ photo competition. Before joining North Star, I was head designer at a global fashion brand for over five years – creativity has always been at the core of what I do, both in and outside work.
