Innovation remains at the core of TSS, with its values including: “providing solutions, keeping it simple, being professional, being a team and straight talking.”
The Red Rose judges recognised the significance of its in-house developed F0CUS software. Launched in 2015, F0CUS handles large volumes of data to manage infrastructure works, assets and contracts.
It helps TSS clients move from analogue to digital systems, and brings together multiple data sets to improve first-time job accuracy.
Nick says: “Combining our senior management team’s decades of experience with technical innovation and expertise, we began developing our own software solution.
“Over the last decade our team has worked tirelessly to develop F0CUS into a highly effective solution for blue chip utility companies and tier one contractors.”
Mick Collum, solutions architect, F0CUS said the software has “helped clients streamline contracts and transition from analogue to digital, supporting their NetZero goals”.
F0CUS has been used by companies including Cadent, United Utilities, Amey, Kier, Bethell, Alun Griffiths and Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water.
Nick says: “The award underpins what we are doing to become a leading software provider.”
“Winning the award confirms that we’re on the right track. We went into the judging process being ourselves and fairly straight talking. We were up against some stiff competition so to win the award is massive.”
Looking ahead, TSS plans to expand into other sectors including highways, EV charging, housing associations, and local authorities.
Nick says: “I am incredibly proud of the TSS team and how dedicated they have been to providing a professional service and continually striving to find the best solutions to complex problems. This award recognises
WHAT THE JUDGES SAID
This year, the company
celebrates its 120th birthday and this award is a testament to business evolution
James Austin Head of finance
This award reinforces our belief that a strategic, professional approach to developing cutting-edge products pays off, both financially and in client satisfaction, positioning us for long-term success.
Josh Wilkinson Software developer
I’ve been with TSS since 2022 and it feels great to be recognised for the work we’ve done building F0CUS, developing new functionality to enhance user experience and provide more solutions. It’s exciting to be part of the team and I’m eager to see where we can take F0CUS next.
Mick Collum Solutions architect, FOCUS
I am really pleased with the award and the recognition of the hard work the team has put into making F0CUS the best solution for our clients. Looking ahead we’re excited to leverage AI, expand into new sectors, and create new employment opportunities in Lancashire.
the journey so far and provides credibility as we move into new sectors.”
James Austin, head of finance, is excited about what being a Red Rose winner involves. He says: “We want to build stronger relationships with other local businesses on the back of it.
“Some previous winners have already reached out. It is a chance to build more partnerships so we can grow and also help them too.”
Expansion into new industries is key. He says: “This award is a great reflection of our ongoing investment in innovative, in-house solutions that deliver real value. We have come from the infrastructure sector and we’ve used that to build a highly functional product. One of the key focuses is expanding our footprint and trying to speak to social housing providers and other industries.”
Nick Smith adds: “It could be a maintenance contractor for a local council or also people working in the traffic management sector.”
TSS has piloted a project with Welsh Water,
using F0CUS to manage installation of 4,500 smart meters. Mick Collum says no two days in the business are the same and the biggest challenge is getting awareness of the innovative technology out there for people to adopt.
The company is now exploring AI and machine learning. He says: “Image recognition is one of the main ones we are looking at by using AI to analyse images and feed that into the data set to enable the decision-making process.”
F0CUS is a next-generation work and asset management platform, built to adapt to the evolving needs of modern industries.
