A TALK ON THE WILD SIDE


Pauline Wild looks back on the days when she was a woman on a mission – to show that a mother with young children could also play an influential role in a leading law firm.


She recalls being glued to her laptop in the evenings after picking up one of her children from nursery, long before working from home became an accepted post-covid norm.


The mum-of-two says: “When I became partner I wanted to get really involved in the running of the business. I wanted to be instrumental, to show that women could have that kind of role and also be a parent


and to show that we could have more of a balanced leadership board.”


Pauline certainly made her point. Today she is managing partner of Lancashire law firm Forbes – leading a business with 384 employees, 67 partners and directors and a £24.5m turnover that is growing year-on-year.


She took on the role three years ago at the practice she has worked in for 23 years. “I always say that if I was a stick of rock, you’d find Forbes written right through me,” she says with a smile.


Pauline is now driving a bold strategy that aims to make Forbes the number


one regional law firm in the UK. It is being delivered from its impressive head office at Walton Summit, on the outskirts of Preston.


Growth is firmly on the agenda for the Legal 500 practice. She says: “Growth is high on our agenda and right now, and for the foreseeable, we want to remain independent. I see myself as a custodian of a 200-year-old law firm and a very special place to work.”


Forbes’ growth is being driven through efforts to create more of a “high performing culture” with the different legal arms of the firm forming strategies and working closer together.
