SUB36 By Rob Kelly

Dave Walker DAVE SHARES HIS PLUS POINTS

When it comes to going on a journey in business, not many can say they started at the age of 12.

However, that’s exactly what happened for Dave Walker, managing director of digital agency +24, who says he “always had an itch for business”.

The 36-year-old says: “I built my first commercial website at 12, and I charged £50 to build it, which at the time was amazing.

“It’s always been a hobby of mine, coding and building websites, so I was building websites at a very young age.

“In my first job I built a cloud customer relationship management (CRM) system before the term ‘cloud’ had been coined which was incredible for the business at the time.

“I then went to work for a local agency which enhanced my knowledge. I wanted to try to set up a business for myself and here we are, nearly 15 years later, and we’re still around and battling on. It was the right choice.”

In that time, Dave says +24 has picked up several awards but being named ‘Young Lancastrian of the Year’ in the 2019 Sub36 awards, was extra special.

He says: “We had applied as a business for a number of different awards that year. We were

feeling a bit of doom and gloom because we had not won.

“But by the end of the night, fortunately, I won the award and there were some really nice comments from the judges.

“From our perspective, it was great to celebrate as a team and it helped with our brand awareness.

“Winning the award gave me a bit of extra confidence as there was some really impressive people nominated for those awards. I think it

Being a proud Lancastrian, Dave has established a business which has deep Lancashire roots starting in Burnley and now in new offices in Rossendale.

He says: “We’re committed to the local community and as an individual I am constantly lobbying about our area.

“We’ve supported the county, sponsoring Lancashire Business View’s Lancashire Day, and we have booked on again to support it this year.

“The award was recognition, probably less so for my business contributions and more for some of my community work.

“I’ve worked so hard over the years supporting a number of charities, in particular Pendleside Hospice, where I’ve been a trustee for more than 10 years.”

“We really want to shout about Lancashire. As an area we’re so tight-lipped about who we are and what we’re doing as businesses.”

Dave says it is an “interesting time” to be in charge of a business as he wants to see growth and moving to the next stage.

He says: “You’ve got all of the challenges that filter down to us as we work with some pretty
