WINNER: DESIGN AWARD

MORE THAN JUST A TROPHY Rosie Alexander Mechanical design engineer Nathan Partington with their Red Rose Award

SMALL COMPANY WITH BIG IDEAS WHAT BEING A RED ROSE WINNER MEANS TO US

After years of letting its work and products do the talking, North Product Design (npd) has finally come out of the shadows.

The winners of the Design Award at this year’s Red Rose Awards, npd has been helping companies and organisations develop meaningful products for almost a decade.

“If it isn’t making a difference to the world, we don’t want to make it,” explains design director Nathan Partington.

Alongside wife Georgina, Nathan runs npd from a small unit in Bretherton, just outside Leyland. The couple was delighted to win the award which provides validation of a decade’s hard work, as well as a springboard for expansion.

Nathan said: “We have always let the work and the products do the talking, but now we felt it was time to put the business in the spotlight.

“This award has given us confidence to tell the world what we are about and say: ‘look at what we are doing’. We are a small local business

trying to keep product design and engineering in Lancashire and showing the world that not everything has to come from London.

“We have demonstrated we are the best product design company in Lancashire. We already knew that. Now we want to take on the rest of the country.”

WHAT THE JUDGES SAID

North Product Design exists solely to solve problems – this is design in its purest form. Grown organically, clearly passionate and ethical, they design products with the potential to change lives

I have been working for npd for about a year now and what attracted me to the company is the fact that the products we design are meaningful. And to win the award was validation for an approach that all of the team buys

Winning the award was a great recognition for this company which it hasn’t had in the past. We are now pivoting into being a more outward-facing organisation and telling the world about the great work being done here.

I missed the awards night as I was on my honeymoon in New Zealand, but Nathan told me we had won and it made the trip even better.
