Chris Bowker provides mechanical and electrical services, including fire and security installation, optical fibre installation and control panel wiring, as well as testing and maintenance. In recent years, the company has completed a number of high profile projects including supporting the NHS and its Covid-19 facilities, providing for critical care units, cancer treatment facilities, additional ward accommodation and vaccination hubs.

MIPD is a property development and rental company. Its portfolio is valued at £7m, and it maintained occupancy levels of 99.5 per cent across the year. It is the sister company and landlord of MI Vehicle Integration, which is based in Preston.

Gilberts designs and manufactures heating, ventilation and air conditioning parts. The company’s products can be found in hotels, museums and universities as well as Chester Zoo, and the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here attraction at MediaCity.

Granby provides a suite of services including promotional marketing, contract packing and third-party logistics for a range of household brands. The company was recruited by the Official for National Statistics to help undertake the 2021 census, and during the pandemic helped distribute test kits and PPE.

Established in 1984, Astons owns a chain of eight pharmacies in Cheshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire, providing prescribed and over the counter medicines, as well as advice on healthy living, weight management, travel vaccinations and other health-related matters. The company also provides wholesale services, which increased across the year as did overall NHS spending.

World Options is a one-stop logistics service, utilising couriers around the world to provide domestic, export and import services ranging from documents to pallets of goods. The company’s own bespoke software enables customers to manage and fulfil orders, compare quotes, book from a choice of providers, track shipments and create detailed reports of activity and trends.

Collinson designs, manufactures, supplies and installs a range of more than 100 bulk feed storage silos, conveyors and feeding systems for use in the dairy, pig, poultry and mill/mix sectors. Though many projects were delayed by lockdown, the family business was able to recover sales by the end of the trading year.
2021: 49 Furnico, Colne
Furnico manufactures upholstered furniture including sofas and beds. The company has manufactured recliners for La-Z-Boy since 2008 and in 2021 the iconic American brand acquired the company, retaining the two factory sites in Nelson and Colne as its only European manufacturing sites. Furnico bosses stated that while sales remained strong, profit margins reduced due to the new owner’s accounting policy in respect of warranty provisions.
