STRENGTHEN YOUR WORKFORCE TALENT WITH OUR SKILLS AND APPRENTICESHIPS OFFER
At Nelson and Colne College Group (NCCG), I take immense pride in leading an organisation that sets the benchmark for delivering exceptional skills training and apprenticeships, tailor-made for the modern workplace.
Being at the heart of Lancashire’s educational and professional development landscape, we have worked to develop a comprehensive offering that not only equips aspiring professionals with industry-relevant skills but also addresses the evolving needs of businesses in Lancashire.
I’m proud to say that at NCCG, we provide a broad and flexible skills development programme. With apprenticeships spanning industries like engineering, business administration, health and social care, construction, and many more, I’ve seen businesses across the county benefit first-hand from apprentices armed with the specialised knowledge required for their sectors.
Our innovative approach of co-creating curriculum and programmes with our employer partners is central to how we work, ensuring that professionals entering the workforce are prepared to tackle sector-specific challenges from the outset. Whether it’s practical plumbing techniques or precision manufacturing, every apprenticeship programme we design combines technical training with real-world applications to create a workforce that is not only skilled but truly future-ready.
CO-CREATED WITH EMPLOYERS, TAILORED FOR SUCCESS
One of the things I’m particularly passionate about is ensuring that our teaching teams at NCCG work closely with employers to embed their priorities
directly into our curriculums. We listen to our employers through industry boards and curriculum development sessions. Through these conversations we are able to shape our teaching and training to ensure that apprentices and technical education learners gain practical, first-hand insights into their industries right from their first day.
This partnership-driven strategy doesn’t just provide learners with skills that are highly relevant to market needs but also strengthens working relationships between NCCG and Lancashire’s industries.
It’s been inspiring to see how this approach has bridged the skills gap faced by many businesses today, supplying them with a workforce that develops through engaging, hands-on experiences and mirrors the expectations of their chosen industries. We also work closely with employers on T Level programmes, linking together to provide some of the very best talent of the future with work experience opportunities that are unrivalled, and provide employers with the ability to get to know learners before taking them on as apprentices at the end of their T Level programme.
Learners trained here don’t leave with just theoretical knowledge – they develop practical, applied skills needed to contribute to Lancashire businesses from the moment they step into the workplace. What’s even more rewarding for me is hearing from employers that our apprentices not only meet expectations but exceed them. The proactive mindset and practical know-how they bring consistently add value to the businesses that hire them.
SUCCESS STORIES IN LANCASHIRE BUSINESSES
A lot of my motivation comes from seeing Contact
apprenticeships@nelsongroup.ac.uk or call 01282 440319
the success stories of our apprentices and hearing the feedback from the businesses they’ve joined. One shining example is Lisa Thompson, a former NCCG IT apprentice who secured a role as an IT technician at a leading Lancashire technology firm. Hearing her say, “The support I had throughout my apprenticeship was outstanding. From tailored training sessions to one-on-one mentoring, Nelson and Colne College Group made it possible for me to transition seamlessly into a full- time role,” reaffirms why I do what I do.
Our employers echo this sentiment. Brian Holden, operations manager at a manufacturing firm, said: “We’ve had several apprentices through Nelson and Colne’s programme. What’s brilliant is their readiness for our specific industries – the partnership model really tailors apprenticeships to our actual operational needs.”
It’s moments like these that underscore the value of what we build here at NCCG.
