NLTG APPRENTICESHIPS AN INVESTMENT FOR BUSINESS GROWTH
As Lancashire business assess the impact of economic and political change on current and future operations, there’s no doubt that apprenticeships remain, an effective way to create a qualified workforce, adding to company productivity and success.
Whether they are used to support the recruitment of new talent, or to develop the skills of existing employees, apprenticeships can deliver real business impact. Here are just a few examples of how…
SKILL DEVELOPMENT ALIGNED WITH COMPANY NEEDS
Apprenticeships are designed to develop specific skills in the workplace. By investing in apprenticeships, you can tailor training to operational needs, creating a more skilled workforce without the high cost of hiring fully trained specialists.
FINANCIAL INCENTIVES
SMEs can access 100 per cent government funding for the training of apprentices aged up to 22. 95 per cent funding is available for training apprentices aged 22-plus, with levy transfer monies sometimes available to bridge the 5 per cent funding gap.
For levy paying employers, effective use of levy funds can augment companywide employee training and development plans.
Apprentices aged 16-18 also attract a government incentive of £1,000 for employers, which can be used to support salary payments.
NI EXEMPTIONS
Employers do not need to pay Class 1 NI contributions for apprentices aged under 25, who earn less than £967 per week. Companies therefore looking to recruit new, and train existing, younger employees can do so via apprenticeships, allowing them
to take advantage of NI exemptions and develop a talent pipeline.
BOOSTING PRODUCTIVITY AND RETENTION
Apprenticeships can deliver real impact with your existing workforce. Used strategically, they can support progression planning and the professional development of employees of any age. In addition to investing in the training of dedicated employees who already have experience in the organisation and the potential to go further, apprenticeships can address skills shortages and improve staff retention, fostering a culture of loyalty, leading to increased productivity.

CASE STUDY: MILESTONE MOMENT
Lancashire County Council (LCC) are dedicated to investment in apprenticeship training and testament to this fact is the council’s 1000th apprentice, Lara Mason.
Lara, who completed a Team Leader/ Supervisor Level 3 Apprenticeship with NLTG, is employed in Trading Standards at LCC.
Described by her manager as a hardworking officer, who looks at the bigger picture and fits her work into regional and national priorities, since she started work with trading standards, Lara has always been keen to help and train other officers.
Lara says: “It was a really worthwhile course; I have enhanced my skills in Team Leading and Supervising and it is a real honour to be Lancashire County Council’s 1000th apprentice.”
Mark Wynn, LCC acting chief executive, commented: “This is a momentous occasion for Lancashire County Council, and I would like to say congratulations to Lara and a huge thank you to one of our key partners, North Lancs Training Group, for all their support and everything they do for us, as a council and in supporting our apprentices to shine.
“Apprenticeships offer an absolutely unique opportunity for both the apprentices and the organisation to develop, introducing skills, best practice, collaboration with partners and across the council.”
