Watersmart InnovationsConference cancels of 2020 event T
he Southern NevadaWater Authority, organizers of the annual WaterSmart Innovations Conference and Exposition (WSI), today
announced it is cancelling this year’s event, originally scheduled for Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Las Vegas. “Aftermuch deliberation,we’ve decided the conferencewould be less effective and appealing if social distancingmeasures are still in effect,” saidWSI ProgramChairman and SNWAConservationManagerDoug Bennett. WhilethisyearwouldhavemarkedWSI’s13thanniversary,organizerswill insteadofferaseriesofwebinarsthisfall, featuringleadingwater-efficiency
professionalswhowereslatedtospeakattheevent.Bennettsaidmoredetails aboutthewebinarserieswillbemadeavailableinthecomingmonths. Bennettsaidsocialdistancingmeasuresexpectedtoremaininplacefor the foreseeablefuturewouldmakenetworkingopportunitiesandclassroom- styleprofessionalsessions—whichtogether formthebackboneof the
event—impractical forWSIparticipants. The inauguralnot-for-profitWSIwasheldin2008andbrought together professionals aroundthe issueofurbanwater efficiency.Witha typical audienceof1,000attendees fromacross the country andaroundthe globe,WSIhasgrownintotheworld’spreeminent eventwhere professionals canshare their successfulwater-efficiencypractices, policies, andexperiences. Anarchiveofmore than1,200presentations fromtheprevious12WSI conferences is available atWaterSmartinnovations. Despite the cancellationof this year’s event,Bennett saidthe conference isontrack toreturntoLasVegas inthe fallof2021. The SNWApresentsWSI inpartnershipwiththeU.S. Environmental ProtectionAgency’sWaterSenseProgram, theAlliance forWater Efficiency, theAmericanWaterWorksAssociation, andother forward- thinkingorganizations.
Breakouts: new online event
launched by Aquatech It’s time to Break Out from convention
Called BreakOuts, the event serieswill feature engaging, live panel discussionswith industry thought leaders. The format is informal, engaging and short (max 1 hour) and aiming to be the perfect break of yourworkday. Taking place onMay 26th at 16:00pm- 17:00pm(CEST), the first live event is expected to attract a crowd of up to 500 delegates. Bridging the themes of innovation and digitalisation fromthe physical Aquatech events, the online discussionwill kickstartwith utilities, European partnerships and global engineering thought leaders fromacross Europe and the Middle East.
