Effective pipe cleaning with less tooling

P icote

Solutions has always looked tominimise the necessary equipment needed by pipeline engineers and drainage operators. With this inmind the company recently launched a newrange of pipeline cleaning chains that are designed to swap set-up time on site forworking time in the pipe. Picote’s 3DCleaningChains are self-adjusting so thatwithin different diameters they can effectively clean the pipewithout the need to keep multiple cleaning chains on-board the support vehicle. The new3D CleaningChains are available in three sizeswith the smallerCleaning Chain being capable of cleaning pipe from50 to 75mmdiameter, the mid-rangeCleaningChainworking in pipes from70 to 100mm diameter and the largerCleaningChain having the capacity to clean pipes from100 to 150mm. The capacity to clean pipewith differing diametersmeans less tooling to carry and fewer chain changes or adjustments during the course of a job as pipe diameters change, either fromsite to site orwithin the same pipe length.

CHAINOPTIONS

The new3DCleaningChain range is available in twomodels including the PremiumVersion and the PVCVersion. The PremiumVersion utilises the tried and tested unique Picote Premiumu-carbide teeth configuration forwheremore aggressive cleaningmay be required and the structure of the pipe is known to be stable and secure. The PVCVersionwithout carbides is less aggressive andmaybe the more practical and safer choicewhere the condition of the pipe is less stable or unknown due to the inability to survey it prior to the cleaning operation. Even then the PVCCleaning Chainwill effectively and efficiently remove blockages and remove detritus fromthe pipeline innerwall.

CLEANING OPERATION

According to Richard Swan, Director ofTechnicalClient Services at Picote Solutions: “These new3DCleaningChains

are taking pipeline cleaning to the next level and are the next stage in Picote’s drive to bring innovation and greater efficiency into the market.” Each 3DCleaningChain comeswith a built-in leadermaking them easier to use and reducing shaftwear during operation. They are self- adjusting, depending on the speed of rotation applied, in that the design allows the chain to continue expanding during the cleaning operation up to themaximumdiameter of the chainmodel being used as scale and detritus is removed fromthe pipewall, without the need for operator intervention. All Picote products are extensively tested prior to release tomarket to ensure they are fit for purpose, safe and effective. The chains come pre-fittedwith leader shafts of 8mmor 12mm diameter. The speed of rotation appliedwill depend on the condition of the pipewith higher speeds being available for themore structurally sound pipes. Richardwent on to say:“We feel that these newchainswill be a game changer for the pipeline cleaning sector. The efficiency theywill bring in terms ofminimal downtimewill be significant andwith the drive to minimise vehicleweight in the drive towards a cleaner climate, any reduction in the amount of tooling that needs to be carried by the operations teamwill bemore than helpful in reducing fuel consumption and vehiclewear. Itmay not seema lot but over time it may be surprising the difference such a small tooling change can make.”
