Primus Line® Overland Piping System- a surface fluid transport option that offers the highest site protection

R

ädlinger Primus Line GmbH first developed its Primus Line® pipe rehabilitation systemin the 1990s and has continually developed

the systemthat today enjoys aworld-wide reputationwhen it comes to the lining of pressure pipe networks includingwater, oil and gas mains. As a company that prides itself on not only providing the contractors withmaterials for their rehabilitation operations but also a site presence that ensures that the products achieve themaximum effectiveness for the future, the company has also noticed over time that theremay be other circumstanceswhere buried pipelinesmay not be the answer to the prevailing circumstances. As inmany cases there is a need to isolate a buried pipeline length whilst a rehabilitation project is undertaken there is also the need to establish a by-pass systemto ensure that the service continues tomeet customer needs. This by-pass is usually run through a temporary pipeline across the surface between two access points at either end of the pipe length being rehabilitated.Or, theremay be circumstances where a temporary pipeline needs to be establishedwithout the need to bury pipe for the longer term. Itwas this type of requirement that led to the development of the Primus LineOverland Piping System.

ENSURINGTHE HIGHEST SAFETY

Using traditional pipematerial such as steel orHDPE for by-pass or transport pipelines can be a time consuming and costly exercise as pipe lengths have to be cut andwelded to fit to the available route. Similarly, the use of trucks to transportwater can also be costly and not always reliable aswell as potentially being highly labour intensive and

environmentally damaging. In 2018 the hydraulic fracturing industry inCanada required a solution for the temporary above-groundwater supply for its processes.Whilst the industrywas permitted to useHDPE ormetal pipes or trucking for the purpose by local regulatory authorities, thiswas deemed unsuitable given the reasons previouslymentioned. So, Primus Linewas approached to see if an alternative solution could be found. After careful examination of the technical and economic aspects faced by operatorswhen dealingwith transfer ofwater, the Primus Line teamdeveloped theOverland Piping System. The Overland Piping Systemis supplied as a continuous pipe length of several hundredmetres using the technology established for the company’s pipe liningmaterials. This eliminates the need for on site welding procedures andmakes the pipe re-usable formultiple applications. The systemoffers improved handling for the operator due
