A notable, reasonably recent taker of Nupoint has been Busey Bank, a $3.5 billion institution with 43 branches across Illinois, Indiana and Florida. Busey’s executive vice-president and CIO, Leanne Kopischke, believed the system’s usability and functionality gave the bank a powerful tool. ‘The first part was to get the implementation done and taking advantage of our current system is now one of our main opportunities,’ she said in late 2012. The Nupoint solution provided Busey with multiple functions in addition to core, including a front-end system, a platform for personal bankers, financial dashboard and online integration. Although the project with CSI was completed, from contract signing to go-live, in four and a half months, according to Kopischke, Busey had been evaluating potential new vendors since as early as 2007. ‘We did a full-blown evaluation five years ago, and we pulled in all the providers out there in the US. Eventually we narrowed it down to Fiserv, FIS and CSI.’ Jack Henry was also considered but did not make the final shortlist. Busey had previously been using Fiserv’s Navigator and Expedite, but a number of factors, including the need for greater efficiency and user friendliness, facilitated the need to improve its core banking system. Busey found that CSI was more accommodating to its business needs. ‘Everybody has different requirements, and for us they were high service levels, having a strategic partner that would help us grow, usability on our front line and integration support,’ said Kopischke. For Busey, Nupoint and CSI ticked those boxes and the bank went ahead with the implementation in May 2012. As well as Nupoint, Busey took on other CSI solutions such as Smart
Branch Delivery, Attus Watchdog Pro and Attus Watchdog CIP. The implementation process was completed in the space of a few months, and the hosted system went live with a big- bang roll-out in September 2012. Kopischke suggested that delays to the project were kept to an absolute minimum due to the cooperation and understanding CSI demonstrated throughout. ‘They’ve shown great dedication and ownership throughout the whole process,’ she commented. Busey did experience some degree of difficulty with the
cut-over, which was largely attributed to the magnitude of the conversion and the short window to complete it in. However, Kopischke believed that Busey sufficiently mitigated against other potential challenges, especially with its customers through a lot of correspondence during the implementation. Also signing for Nupoint in 2012 was Casey State Bank (CSB), which had ten branches across Illinois and Indiana and over $250 million in assets. CSB had been using the Precision offering from Fiserv on an in-house basis for over six years. However, Brad Wolfe, president and CEO of CSB, explained that it had become frustrated with this, and a combination of other systems. The bank was tied up with Precision, ComplianceOne from Wolters Kluwer Financial Services for loan and deposits management, an imaging system from a US-based provider, CSPI, and a local hardware company that was ‘trying to make it all work’, he said. CSB hoped that by switching over to Nupoint on an outsourced basis, the bank would be able to cut its IT costs and reduce the complexity of its operations. Wolfe said that the bank had evaluated three domestic
providers: Arkansas-based Advanced Services Inc, Jack Henry and CSI. He explained that it was the people at CSI that had proved decisive in the final selection process. ‘More so than
