Technology and functionality
With regards to the Alnova architecture, the back-end is built in Cobol and runs on mainframe, Unix and .Net environments. The front-end and middle tier run on .Net and Java. There is also a multi-channel layer, Alnova Multi-channel Technical Architecture (AMTA), available both in J2EE and .Net. AMTA supports branches, internet and wireless banking, PDAs, agents, tellers and call centers, and can be sold with or without the full Alnova package.

Evolution
Notably, in September 2003, Accenture announced a partnership with SAP which was intended to see designs from the Alnova system contribute to a fleshing out of SAP’s Corebanking/ AM retail banking offering (now Deposits Management). This seemed somewhat surprising, with Accenture helping an Alnova rival to market. SAP claimed a more package-type approach and there was meant to be a geographical differentiation, with Alnova focused on its traditional areas of strength – Iberia and Latin America – although with the possibility that the two partners would compete on occasions. On the product side, Accenture in 2006 went public on its intention to move to a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) after setting out its product roadmap for Alnova. Around 100 development staff, mainly in Spain, were dedicated to Alnova; the SOA evolution was meant to happen over around three years and, among other things, was meant to see a more flexible mode of delivery, including the ability

implementing Accenture’s Mortgage Cadence Enterprise Lending Centre to simplify its processes. The bank, which counts 125,000 consumer and business accounts in its customer base and with assets of $3.9 billion, was looking for an all-in-one solution to its borrowing and mortgage processes.
