A typical breakfast may include eggs, cheese, sweet plantains, rice, and beans (called gallo pinto) and either corn tortillas or bread. Beverages may include juice or coffee or both (18). Lunch and dinner meals may include soups like beef soup, red bean soup, or meatball soups (12). Other meal staples are any type of meat (chicken, pork, seafood) coupled with fried plantains, rice and beans, and cabbage salad.
Breakfast may consist of bread, eggs, fruit, or juice. Fritters may also be consumed, as well as tortillas, which are thick and may or may not contain cheese. Deep fried corn tortillas can also be served, loaded with eggs or fried meats (20). Coffee is a breakfast staple. Lunch and dinner meals include rice, beans, and meat (12).
