The Omnia ZERMATT, SWITZERLAND

Perched on a granite rock 45 metres above the town of Zermatt, The Omnia mountain lodge is overshadowed only by the iconic Matterhorn, which towers majestically above it. Guests arrive from the village via an underground tunnel before entering an elevator that rises up through the rock to the hotel lobby — located a lofty 1,650 metres above sea level. This hidden gem in the Swiss Alps is the perfect exclusive hideaway, with its one-of- a-kind location, luxurious interior design, fine cuisine, comprehensive wellness programme and welcoming team. While the craftsmanship and materials used to

build the lodge reflect the traditions of the Valais, the furnishings are inspired by warm, handcrafted modernism — sunlight floods in through supersized glass windows, logs burn in the stone fireplace and leather sofas and custom-made wooden furniture echo the Alpine surroundings. All 30 guest rooms, including 12 elegant suites, open out onto balconies offering breathtaking views of the snow-dusted peaks. The most luxurious suites come with a telescope, sauna, living room and fireplace.

With a strong commitment to regional and

sustainable produce, The Omnia’s executive chef, André Kneubühler, presents ‘Alpine Excellence’ to guests. As well as maintaining a close watch on the latest trends, the lodge’s cuisine focuses on the authentic flavours of local Alpine quality foods, sourced from sustainable producers. The concept allows diners the possibility to adapt vegetarian menus to include individual fish or meat courses. After dinner, guests can lounge on vast sofas in front of the crackling fire, sipping espresso and grappa. The wellness centre, with its otherworldly

atmosphere, offers pure relaxation. It’s equipped with a modern indoor/outdoor pool, allowing swimmers to dive under a glass partition and float in the fresh mountain air. After an intensive day hiking or biking, a wide variety of massages will relieve sore limbs — relax with the massage jets in the open- air heated pool or in the outdoor whirlpool with stunning views to the Matterhorn. There are also two treatment rooms for individual massages. Follow up with the Finnish sauna or bio sauna, or sepnd time in the herbal- and flower-scented steam room.

DON’T MISS After a day’s skiing or hiking, soothe aching muscles in the al fresco whirlpool bath overlooking the majestic Matterhorn
