Jaci’s Private Lodge MADIKWE, SOUTH AFRICA

In the wild heart of the Madikwe Game Reserve, Jaci’s Private Lodge stands as a family-built legacy shaped by one of South Africa’s most remarkable conservation success stories. Founded in 2000 by Jan and Jaci van Heteren, who built the very first lodge in the reserve, Jaci’s has grown from an inspired idea into one of Madikwe’s most soulful and sought-after safari retreats. From the beginning, the vision was to create

a lodge that felt vibrant and deeply connected to its surroundings. Jan and Jaci filled the space with bold design, handcrafted detail and a playful celebration of African texture and colour. This spirit remains at the core of the experience today, expressed across the 10 Safari Suites and the exclusive-use private villas. As the family enters a new chapter under the unified name Jaci’s, the lodge honours its roots while completing a full rebuild ahead of reopening in July 2026. Set in the malaria-free North West province,

Madikwe Game Reserve offers one of the most diverse natural environments in South Africa. Red Kalahari sands, open grasslands, dense

woodland and sculpted rock formations create a rich wilderness that supports thriving populations of the Big Five along with cheetah, wild dog, brown hyena and more than 350 bird species. Morning and afternoon game drives reveal the rhythms of this ecosystem, from the drama of predators to the intricate behaviours of the often-overlooked species that make Madikwe so alive. At Jaci’s, the safari experience is complemented

by a strong culinary identity shaped by generous hospitality and authentic South African flavour. Menus draw on seasonal produce, bold spices and colourful presentation, reflecting the warmth and energy of the lodge. After morning drives, guests return to freshly baked pastries, wholesome breakfasts and light, flavourful lunches. Evenings become atmospheric dining occasions, whether around a lantern-lit boma fire, at elevated look- out decks or through plated chef-led menus in changing settings that embrace the night sky. Expect dishes such as slow-cooked venison potjie, vegetables flame-grilled over coals, local tilapia and desserts infused with indigenous botanicals.

DON’T MISS Enjoy dinners in various locations including look-out decks, the boma fire and the main lodge, each offering a different atmosphere
