Hotel Pigalle GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN

The palatial house by Brunnsparken in the heart of Gothenburg carries a history as rich and fascinating as the city’s. Palacehuset first opened its doors in 1751 as a sugar refinery. In the early 1800s, the property was acquired by the War Council, which continued sugar production until 1841, when banker and businessman Eduard Magnus transformed the estate into a 1.5-acre residence designed for four families. His daughter, Göthilda Magnus, inherited the property in 1879 and moved in with her husband, Pontus Fürstenberg, the following year. The Fürstenbergs turned the palace into a

sanctuary for art. Young artists lived and worked within its walls, decorating the interiors in exchange for food and lodging. Among the artists associated with the house and the Fürstenberg collection are Carl Larsson, Anders Zorn, Bruno Liljefors, Ernst Josephson, Hugo Birger, Herman Norrman and the sculptor Per Hasselberg. As the collection grew, an additional floor was

added in 1885, creating the Fürstenberg Gallery. Following the passing of the Fürstenbergs, both the palace and their extensive art collection were

donated to the City of Gothenburg, and their legacy continues at the Gothenburg Museum of Art. Today, Hotel Pigalle, stands as more than a

boutique hotel; it’s a living house of culture, crafted detail and international soul. With 81 uniquely designed rooms and two iconic suites, it offers a sense of belonging far from the everyday, yet close to everything that matters. From the rooftop terrace overlooking the city to the live music stage and piano bar, Pigalle embodies a spirit of connection and creativity. Evenings unfold in soft light, with music and

laughter filling the rooms. Whether for dinner, a conference, a staycation or a late-night cocktail, Pigalle delivers moments that surprise, indulge, and linger long after departure. The dining experience celebrates French-

inspired traditions brought to life through modern craftsmanship. On the fourth floor, a lively neighbourhood tavern atmosphere invites guests to gather. Well-prepared dishes, genuine hospitality, and an unmistakable sense of energy create evenings that are as vibrant as they are memorable.
