Emporia Wine & Dine Hotel MOSTAR, BOSNIA

Located in the heart of the Western Balkans, Emporia is where centuries of winemaking tradition meet modern elegance, creating a sanctuary of refined living. Emporia’s foundation is its winery, an

attraction in its own right and the source of much of the estate’s magic. Its legacy dates back to the 19th century, when an imperial wine school was founded on the grounds, and today Emporia proudly continues that tradition. The estate cultivates both native and classic grape varieties, allowing vintners to craft blends unique to this terroir. For generations, the land has grown žilavka, a white grape known for its bright acidity and citrus notes, and blatina, a red grape yielding deep, plum-scented wines. Emporia’s winemakers honour these local stars by blending them with internationally recognised varieties, from cabernet to syrah, creating limited-edition cuvées. The estate’s nine labels — from velvety reds to delicate rosés — capture the spirit of the land, marrying tradition with innovation, and has each earned accolades on the global stage.

Also central to Emporia’s appeal is its fine-dining

restaurant, where the chefs draw inspiration from the Mediterranean pantry, transforming farm-fresh produce and regional recipes into haute cuisine. Many ingredients come from nearby farms or

Emporia’s own gardens, making the art of fine dining inseparable from the land itself. For starters, you might try the octopus rossoverde, tender octopus served on a vibrant avocado-tomato puree, paired with a gentle rosé. For the main course, there’s slow-cooked duck finished with a lush forest fruit and cognac sauce, accented by spicy horseradish and a touch of wild honey. This inventive dish finds its perfect partner in

one of Emporia’s bold red wines, echoing the fruit and oak nuances of the sauce. Then, for dessert, consider the warm baked pear

and almond cake. Its delicate sweetness is elevated by sips of Amphora, an amber-hued wine aged in clay amphorae with notes of dried fruit and nuts, and White Mist, Emporia’s elegant white blend, adding a whisper of floral perfume to each bite.

DON’T MISS Take a guided tour of the estate’s historic winery to learn about the heritage of the grapes and the artistry behind Emporia’s cuvées
