DESIGN 19

While its DNA is unmistakably that of

a Lexus, it has several unique features, starting with the newly designed spindle grille which creates a three-dimensional appearance that changes with the viewing angle and is flanked on either side by headlamps arranged in an arrowhead motif, resembling raised eyebrows. The rear is just as distinctive, boasting a “lightbar” spread across the vehicle like an artist’s signature. To keep things real for this demanding

target market, the UX doesn’t pretend to be an off-roader. However, it offers some amazing cornering and manoeuvering capabilities on tight streets, compliments of the new Global Architecture Compact platform that delivers superb agility and ride comfort. The models we drove came in an array of dazzling colours, enhanced by the beautiful streets of Stockholm. The UX comes in two versions: the

UX200, with a 2,0-litre petrol engine that has a new Direct-Shift Continuously Variable Transmission (D-CVT) gearbox and the UX 250h, a self-charging hybrid which features a new, high-efficiency 2,0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine specific for its platform. Overall, the UX is a great entry vehicle

to the compact luxury crossover segment, promising engaging driving, outstanding handling and striking good looks. As they say in Sweden: “Fantastisk!”
