LEANING TOWARDS LUXURY

Hyatt Hotels has officially opened the world’s furthest-leaning hotel, Andaz Capital Gate in Abu Dhabi. This architectural feat leans at 18o

, making

it four times more slanted than the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The hotel houses a permanent art gallery with curated pieces from local artists and the overall design is inspired by Emirati culture, with intricate wooden window adornments, Islamic calligraphy, traditionally woven fabrics and iconic date palm motifs. All 189 rooms offer great views of the city and guests can keep cool in the outdoor pool deck on the 19th Visit: www.hyatt.com

floor.

THE UN-HOTEL MOVEMENT The latest trend in the global hotel sector is turning the concept of traditional hotels on its head. Instead of having many rooms on the same property, un-hotels have different rooms in various locations, united only in character and concept. Sweets Hotel in Amsterdam has transformed 28 iconic bridge houses into independent hotel suites dotted around the city’s waterways, with the aim of introducing visitors to new neighbourhoods and unexpected experiences in the city. One of the rooms is a converted white Sixties cube in Amsterdam-Noord, while another was built in a 1928 Amsterdam School house near Westerpark. Visit: https://sweetshotel.amsterdam

BUILDING BETTER BURGERS

After gaining huge popularity across the USA, Beyond Burger, a vegan alternative for the beef patty, is available in SA. While the patty looks, cooks and tastes like beef, it’s made entirely from plants and contains no added hormones, antibiotics or GMOs. It’s packed with 20g of protein, with the primary source coming from peas. A Beyond Burger patty uses 99% less water than a traditional 113g beef burger, 93% less land, produces 90% fewer greenhouse gases and uses 46% less energy. Since its debut in 2016, more than 25 million of these burgers have been sold worldwide. Visit: www.beyondmeat.com
