‘A change of mindset is key when planning a product’
Companies should consider moving from a project-based to a product-based mindset when launching a new product. SŨŭËśŨǝ ĺŨŨśóĨĨƺǝçďĒóĈǝĺŘóśËŨĒİĉǝĺƗçóśǝËŨǝ
cruise technology specialist Traveltek, said: “If you bring the wrong mindset into the new age, you build products that are not right. And it’s not just about the product you build, ĒŨǛšǝËæĺŭŨǝďĺƃǝƉĺŭǝæŭĒĨíǝĒŨǝËšǝƃóĨĨƿǙ He explained that when investing in its new

EMERGENT STRATEGY There are two spectrums to product strategy – deliberate strategy and emergent strategy – Cottrell said. The deliberate strategy is one that lots of companies, such as Ford and Procter and Gamble, have adopted in the past to develop their product set. By comparion, he said the likes of Amazon
and Apple aren’t restrained by “restrictive, íóĨĒæóśËŨóǝšŨśËŨóĉƉǙƺǝËííĒİĉƹǝǘTďóƉǛśóǝËæĨóǝŨĺǝ take an emergent approach. They understand that the market changes and the needs of consumers change, and they also understand that they’re working in a complex system

he suggested adding a focus on ǘçŭšŨĺįóśǑçóİŨśĒçĒŨƉǙƿ Customer-centricity is not about asking
them one question and taking it at surface level, he added, but really about the depth of the customer insight. “Walk in your customer’s shoes, understand
their needs, wants and problems, and think how you’re able to solve them. Then focus on the outcomes and not the outputs. “Don’t care about how many lines of code
your software engineers write. Don’t even care so much about the number of hours they work. Care about whether they are giving the business results. Whether they’re driving the value so they’re getting you revenue in. And whether the customers are ultimately happy. “Make sure that your product is delivering
