The Globe Travel Awards aren’t just about fun and festivities – they’re also about making a difference

Amid the excitement of the Globes ceremony, guests are encouraged to contribute to a good cause, chosen in conjunction with travel industry experts. At the 2024 awards, Inspiring Girls was the chosen charity – an organisation with a pledge to combat gender stereotypes and widen career horizons for young girls.

The non-profit organisation works in schools and

communities worldwide to provide mentorship from women working across a wide range of industries. Through talks, workshops and events, the charity helps girls explore diverse career paths, offering them the chance to connect with successful, inspirational women. In 2023, the nominated charity was Play It Forward,

an initiative founded in 2017 by Attraction Tickets chief executive Oliver Brendon. The charity-cum-football club provides education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and employment skills for young people in Zambia, as well as opportunities to play in a football league designed to be a safe and inclusive place to develop their teamwork and leadership skills. Almost £12,000 was

raised that year, which was sufficient funding to re-enrol 250 girls in southern Zambia in full-time education. Previous charities to benefit from the generosity

of Globes attendees have included the Mental Health Foundation, which provides resources to prevent mental health issues, support those affected and reduce stigma; and the Children’s Trust, which delivers rehabilitation, education and community services for children with brain injuries. Globes guests have also given generously to Reuben’s

Retreat, which provides a sanctuary for bereaved parents and families of children with life-limiting conditions. The charity was set up in 2012 by the travel industry’s own Nicola and Mike Graham in memory of their son, Reuben. Other chosen charities have included ShelterBox, which delivers emergency shelter to disaster-stricken communities, and the Amber Foundation, which supports homeless young adults. At the Globe Travel Awards, giving back is just as

important as celebrating success. So on January 16, when this year’s charity is given its moment on stage, we hope you can find it in your heart to dig deep and donate.
