Lofoten Islands

COOL HEADS The ongoing rise of the ‘coolcation’ was also confirmed as many hotspots in Greece and the Med lengthened their seasons to include more options in April and October, while traditional ski resorts in Germany, Austria and northern Italy also reported a bumper summer as visitors switched to cooler climes. Heads were turning towards Scandinavia too, with Jet2.com returning to the Norwegian city of Bergen in April after a 15-year hiatus, while Jet2CityBreaks doubled the size of its Norway and fjords programme for 2025, with flights scheduled to operate from seven UK airports next spring. Cox & Kings also added Scandinavia to its portfolio, offering four bespoke tours through Norway, Sweden and Denmark.

PLAN FOR ALL SEASONS For this winter, Norwegian is flying a new route from Gatwick to Norway’s Harstad-Narvik airport – giving easy access to areas such as the Lofoten Islands, known for their majestic northern lights displays. Crystal Ski Holidays, meanwhile, has introduced eight mountain resorts, including Spain’s Sierra Nevada. Ski specialist Absolutely Snow is looking to reap

the rewards of a year of wooing the trade. The operator more than doubled its bookings from May to December 2023, after introducing a transactional website for the trade, with agent bookings accounting for 40% of all forward sales as of this June. Jet2holidays is rewarding the trade too. Even before this summer’s sun had set, the operator had begun

offering £50 discounts to clients booking through independent agents for holidays departing this winter and next summer. The deal covers thousands of hotels and villas in more than 60 destinations across Europe – providing a further incentive for those keen to get their holiday fix on short-haul shores.
