Cappadocia, Turkey
biggest Greece programme to date this year – with 12% more air capacity than in 2023 – following a marketing campaign with the Greek National Tourism Organisation that launched last year. The airline offered more than 100 routes from 11 UK airports to 14 airports in Greece. Greek hotel brand Grecotel’s UK business
was up 20% this year, including more last-minute bookings than previously. Domes Resorts, meanwhile, underlined its commitment to the trade, expanding its UK team to five and hosting more than 200 travel professionals at resorts across Greece and Portugal, including new resort Domes Novos Santorini. Palladium-owned brand Only You debuted in Seville
in time for its annual April festival, Feria de Abril, the same month as the Spanish Tourist Office hosted its second annual Sustainability Day in London. Turkey also had a promising year, seeing a 19% boost in UK tourist numbers in the first half of 2024. A new Turkish Tourism Board learning platform was launched to the trade as part of the All in Turkey initiative, and is expected to offer 40 courses by the end of 2025.
AHEAD OF THE GAME All eyes will be on North America’s sporting events over the next few years. The US, Canada and Mexico are gearing up to host the 2026 Fifa World Cup, and tour operators will be going all out to capitalise on the interest. Route 66 will celebrate its centenary in the same year, while Los Angeles will be preparing to host the Olympic Games in 2028. The excitement has already begun ramping up after Tom Cruise’s skydiving spectacle at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics, symbolically handing over the Olympic torch to the City of Angels.
In the meantime, nearby Anaheim will be marking
the 70th anniversary of the original Disneyland Resort next July. Disney is looking firmly to the future with a raft of new attractions that include an area themed around The Lion King at Disneyland Paris and the largest-ever expansion of Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. And it’s full steam ahead for Universal Orlando Resort too, where next May will see the new Universal Epic Universe theme park open its gates.
