CELEBRITY INTERVIEW

And I was happy to do that – it felt very natural to reach out and to get back so much support. And the more I spoke about it the more I realised I needed to offer more than just advice and diet and exercise, so I started to talk about travel as a way of escaping the daily struggles and battles. Initially I was just looking for new ways to offer hope, but the more I talked about getting away as a means of coping with setbacks and disappointments, the more I realised it was true, and I should be doing it more. Travel releases us physically and mentally from all the pressures of life. A change of scenery is an incredible medicine because it gives us new hope, new inspiration and a different way of looking at the world. It makes us appreciate that perhaps the things we think are most difficult actually aren’t.

Sometimes it’s just the act of getting out there. It doesn’t have to be anywhere totally amazing – you can find a trip to the zoo or a walk around a park just as special. The temptation is sometimes to look at the most amazing places to visit when we’re away, but we’ve found just as much joy in very simple streets, cafes and evening walks as we have all the big attractions. It just makes me even more convinced that travel is only ever as good as the people you are with.

+° 7h>̽à Liin ÞoÕÀ Li}}iÃÌ ÌÀ>Ûil iÝÌÀ>Û>}>nVi¶ Some people thought it was a bit strange when we went to Bali for a cleansing break with [the couple’s daughter] Luna. She was about a year-and-a-half old at the time and people thought it was a bit strange to recharge with a baby who was just walking, but seeing her develop her own sense of wanderlust really just made it all the more special. When I’ve been to Bali in the past it has been a party atmosphere, and this was a totally different side of it, and I loved that.

Mostly I want to share incredible experiences so that others can try them as well, and some of the mysteries of travel have been debunked in recent years thanks to social media. What I’m saying is that some destinations will always be as we expected them to be, such as the Maldives, Lake Como… we all know what they look like and we always have. But more than that now, we have places to visit that we wouldn’t have ever considered in the past just by looking in a travel brochure. Off-the-beaten-track destinations, perhaps cities that were war-torn in the past, or remote spots in the middle of Africa – everything is now achievable to anyone with a sense of adventure.
