MANDARIN ORIENTAL BODRUM Bodrum, Turkey

LOCATION: Mandarin Oriental Bodrum elegantly stretches across a green hillside and is set within olive groves and pine trees above the aptly named Paradise Bay. Despite being located in the ever-popular southwestern tip of Turkey, the resort, which cascades down to the shimmering turquoise of the Aegean Sea, is a secluded oasis of tranquillity.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Guests enter the hotel through an unobtrusive entrance, which opens on to a terrace serving up spectacular panoramic views over the bay. The design emphasises the natural landscape around the property, with stunning views at almost every turn. The landscape is not the only sight that will stop guests in their tracks, with light, contemporary interiors and artworks dotted throughout the resort. Among the less-natural sites is a new Chanel store, the white building of which stands out on the hillside like a shining pearl among the verdant surroundings.

THE FACTS: Mandarin Oriental Bodrum has 137 rooms across four categories: large guestrooms, suites, apartments and villas. These include the recent additions of Alisya, Arya and Blue beach villas, the Olive Tree Villa and the Waterfront Suite. The jewel in the crown is the Presidential Villa, which boasts seven bedrooms, an outdoor pool and «ÀiÛ>Ìi wÌniÃà v>ViliÌiið /hiÀi >Ài VoÕnÌliÃà ë>Vià voÀ }ÕiÃÌÃ

Relaxation is also the name of the game in the impressive spa, which incorporates a tea lounge and marble hammam therapy rooms. On the food front, the six restaurants include Italian Assagio; Sofra, which serves local seafood; and contemporary Japanese venue IOKI.

EXPLORE: Highlights of this coastal region include a 15th-century castle, which bears the markings of Christian crusaders and Ottomans. The town’s historic marina is lined with gulets, which can be hired to explore this beautiful coastline. A new marina has also been built, housing luxury yachts, moored beside restaurants and high-end retailers.
