THE ADVISORY BOARD 60

seconds with... Paul Beale senior director of sales UK, Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Q. Regent will launch new ship Splendor in the coming months. How are you preparing the trade? With blood, sweat and tears! We have ramped up our trade communications for Seven Seas Splendor with lots of videos and sneak peeks. We’ve added Splendor sections to our training hub

(regentrade.com) and revamped training presentations.

Q. How will agents be involved in the launch events? We have a Mediterranean ‘preview’ cruise in February hosting hundreds of agents. It is a key sales period, so we very much appreciate the fact that our partners have allowed their top sellers away from their desks. With the free Wi-Fi, however, they can stay in contact with top clients while on board – and maybe even make a few bookings!

Q. There’s huge competition in the luxury sector. What can we expect from Splendor? Competition is a good thing and is why the profile of this market has grown exponentially in recent years. Seven Seas Splendor will be the jewel in the crown of the sector, perfecting luxury, and will further cement high-end cruising as a viable alternative to land-based holidays.

Q. After being the subject of a Channel 5 six-part documentary, did Regent see an uplift in interest? We’ve had an incredible year, but the documentary was the icing on the cake. Every metric has gone through the roof, including bookings.

Q. What is your strategy for the trade in 2020? Segmentation would be my key word – quality not quantity. If travel partners can articulate Regent’s unrivalled experience to the right clientele, then they will increase their business.
