Intrepid reveals plans to become ‘climate positive’


Intrepid Travel has outlined plans to become “climate positive” by next year – through plans to raise almost £200,000 to fund a seaweed project through its not-for-profit Intrepid Foundation. The operator has been a carbon-neutral company since 2010, buying carbon credits associated with renewable energy. Intrepid will donate 40% of all profits from family holidays booked between now and the end of June 2019 to the project.


Solos Holidays acquired by investor Stone Ventures


Singles specialist Solos Holidays aims to increase sales via the trade after being acquired by private equity investor Stone Ventures for an undisclosed sum. The move gives the escorted touring operator, which sends about 11,000 customers away each year, access to £1 million to fund its expansion plans.


Brits die in buggy accident on mountain in Santorini


Two British holidaymakers died in a buggy accident in Santorini last week. Married couple Toby and Milly Savill, who were in their mid-20s, fell 200 metres into a ravine while driving the rented vehicle on the Profitis Ilias mountain, the highest point on the Greek island.


Not on My Flight aims to stamp out unruly behaviour


The European Aviation Safety Agency has launched a campaign called Not on My Flight, which calls for zero tolerance against unruly behaviour by passengers both airside and on aircraft. The initiative follows the UK Travel Retail Forum’s One Too Many scheme, which warns travellers of the stiff penalties for disruptive behaviour, including from excessive drinking.


TourHound hits £1m leads target three months early

Online touring and adventure aggregator TourHound has passed its £1 million sales-lead target and signed a partnership with Dawson & Sanderson.

Hicks said the platform had already generated £1 million in sales leads in its current financial year, which runs to May 31. “We originally targeted passing the £1 million [mark] in June, but the market has proved extremely buoyant. We are running ahead of target currently and have crossed this threshold three months ahead of schedule,” he said. “We are really pleased and hope


to double it next year. Growth in the last quarter has been phenomenal and so far in April we have not seen any let-up in demand – we are on a roll, with growth month after month.” Launched in late 2017 with

Agents left ‘helpless’ after Jet Airways grounds all flights


Travel firms said they felt “helpless” dealing with customers stranded in India after Jet Airways grounded all its flights last week. India’s second-largest


airline had been operating 120 aircraft and made the decision to stop all flights after initially grounding just international flights. It pulled its Manchester- Mumbai route in March.

Hicks is about to recruit a business development manager to develop partnerships with tourist boards, airlines and airports. “We want to engage with tourist


offices so we can run campaigns such as a dedicated Swiss or US fortnight, for example, which will appeal to our operators,” he said.


“We are in a helpless situation. Allwe can do is provide options for passengers and it’s their call whether they take them or not, but the prices are on the high side because of so much demand.”

Travelpack had about 125 customers affected. Director Vishal Patel said: “We’d love to get people on direct flights but it’s not been possible.” Jet Airways said: “Without


interim funding, the airline is unable to conduct flight operations.”
