CONNECTIONS WELLBEING: CONNECTIONS SLOVENIA 2019

Slovenia aims to be a global leader in green tourism

S

lovenians make the most of their rich terrain and “all the best things in Slovenia happen outdoors”, says Karmen Novarlic, head of the Slovenian Tourist Board.

“Our country offers diverse, meaningful encounters with nature,” Novarlic says. “About 60% of the territory is covered in forest, and a third of its territory is protected. Wherever you go there are streams, rivers, waterfalls, lakes and springs with healing mineral water.” As the environment is so integral to Slovenia’s wellbeing tourism and everyday life, the Slovenian Tourist Board has created a green tourism scheme called Slovenia Green that aims to put sustainability at the heart of all development.

It hopes that Slovenia Green sets a

precedent for tourist boards across the world, creating a model to be adopted

by other nations in the years to come. slovenia.info

HEALTH RESORTS ‘LEAD THE WAY’ IN OFFERING MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIES Retreats that offer cognitive therapies and one-to-one coaching are trending, according to Stella Photi, managing director of Wellbeing Escapes. “Today, one in four people will be

affected by mental or neurological disorders,” Photi says. “While policy makers and health bodies recognise its seriousness, there is a lack of alternative therapies available. “Many health resorts now offer therapies like neurolinguistic pro- gramming, coaching and mindful- ness. Some programmes even help boost brain power and productivity through the improvement of cognitive functions. Most of our clients looking for an emotional- healing holiday ask for one-to-one coaching, especially following trauma such as divorce or loss.” Other trends identified include gut health, personalised fitness

training and digital detox. wellbeingescapes.com
