STEFAN NILSSON: HIS REFLECTIONS few online obsessions. Marble, for

example, and not just on fl oors. Ten years ago a panel discussion,

“From magazine to monitor - the rise of the blog”, took place in Atlanta as part of a series called SCADStyle. Among the panelists were Jaithan Kochar, Rita Konig and Nick Olsen, who discussed the relevance of the blogger in a world normally dominated by professional writers. A very interesting point that came out of that was the fact some industry experts believed bloggers were not qualifi ed to give their opinions or guide consumer choices. They felt that these bloggers - or citizen journalists as they were more commonly known - create noise and more confusion when it comes to consumer buying decisions. The bloggers retorted that they were simply a community exercising their freedom of speech. “We often give an unbiased/unpaid opinion of a particular product or service and inspire one other to create beauty around us,” Erika Ward, the Behind the Curtain blogger commented afterwards.

Trendstefan’s Stefan Nilsson was at Domotex for the third year Afterwards he shared his thoughts with followers. Here’s an extract: Do you remember last year when all carpets had a white base and symmetrical and geometrical patterns? All gone. Carpets of 2020 brings another story than that of straight lines in

a fl oor. Instead, we will see a bit of folklore, blue and also pastels – and of course sustainability. Besides carpets with lines, we have also seen carpets in various shapes. That newness has faded and carpets are now more square and regular. Back to basics? You do of course fi nd a handful of examples of carpets that are so arty that they are almost art. Talking to carpet expert, The Ruggist, the industry itself has pushed the limits on art carpet. Maybe we are willing to pay 5000 euro for an art piece – but for a carpet? Well, if you put your carpet on the wall, then you might be willing to pay that. The Ruggist also mentioned a new feature I didn’t realise myself, and that is the mix of materials. You will fi nd silk with wool and other material combinations. And this is getting more and more common. One trend theme I saw was something I want to call “folklore”... woven carpets with blue and orange. What we did see on the colour scheme was a lot of blue. Perhaps as a follow on Pantone’s colour of the year, or simply a reaction to the beige and white we have seen for a while. So blue got your attention. Pretty nice and easy to like.
