DOMOTEX WORLD SECTIONS FLOORING CARPETS AND RUGS TILING

DOMOTEX Flooring has reached new heights - and is even scaling the walls

to get there, opening up a whole new range of possibilities in terms of design and the way products are manufactured

Flooring is going places. Up the wall, for a start; a new trend that has appeared to gain increasing popularity with many companies releasing DIY installation methods. Välinge launched its 5G Climb innovation at the show, which uses fl oor panels as studs. This was not lost on Piet Dossche, founder and CEO of US Floors, who spoke of fl ooring’s ability to be used in new ways. “Floors are moving to walls and are used in showers and as backsplashes,” he said. “Performance is key, but what is most important is the look.” Metrofl or, part of HMTX Industries, gave a European debut to its magnetic fl ooring and CFL has been updating to its Novocore brand, a waterproof rigid core product dubbed Novocore Q (quiet). Similarly, Amorim Cork Flooring demonstrated its cork-based fl ooring which it said can reduce walking sounds by up to 53 per cent. In Hall 8, the concept of “fl oor and more” also referred to fl ooring

materials being used as art and even on ceilings. Unilin division Technologies introduced Unidrop. a new locking profi le to the market the fi rst one-piece fold-down system that can be disassembled by angling-out. It is said to be able to create tight seams and the active locking incorporated produces a joint with excellent vertical load bearing capacity and horizontal tensile strength, no matter the material-SPC, WPC or laminate fl ooring. Unidrop technology can easily be integrated into existing milling machines and is designed to be machined even with generous milling tolerances. The show also saw some interesting collaborations. Valinge, for example entered into an agreement with TH Floors for

the use of Liteback core technology. The new agreement meant that the SPC fl oor manufacturer will become the fi rst company in Vietnam to introduce this technology. And of course, when it comes to

hardwood fl ooring, everyone it seems has their favourites. No surprise, given the vast range of colours, textures and options available. Not to mention their forgiving nature. Just ask anyone who’s spilled wine on a kitchen fl oor. Bright painted surfaces, for example, appeal for their warmth and the way that they can be made to complement their surroundings, especially when there’s an abundance of stone and tile in the form of worktops and backsplashes – not to mention metals. European white oak has been popular among lighter woods of late, especially in wide planks, all of which ensures a balance of both organic texture and warmth. And another wide plank choice? Possibly, dark charcoal.
