Seminar Registration - Stand L310 TUESDAY 8TH FEBRUARY
Session 1 - 10.00am Lessons from Formula One Sharing the five broad competency dimensions which have proven success in enabling high performing organisations to become outperforming and elite.
Session 2 - 11.00am Making it Happen: The Art of Effective Strategy Deployment How do high performing companies ensure everyone is aligned and engaged with their chosen strategy? It doesn’t matter which vehicle you choose be it Hoshin; OKR’s or Balanced Scorecard - what matters is ensuring that the strategy speaks the right language. We will look at examples from several high performing companies and provide some insight on what works and why and discuss how you can encourage your team to own your chosen strategy. Ailsa Carson, Onsite Insights
Session 3 - 12.00pm Standard Work, SOPs and how to drive continuous improvement in your business Standard work is the concept of doing the same thing, in the same way in a consistent and best practice manner. It provides the basis for Standard Operating Procedures which deliver consistent quality, monitor performance and provide training documentation across every area of the business. SOPs form the starting point for all quality and productivity improvements. With tips and practical advice from 20 years of Operational Excellence experience, Tim Scurlock will discuss how to create SOPs, use them to set quality and productivity targets and build a culture of Continuous Improvement. Tim Scurlock, Director, Applied Lean Consulting
Session 4 - 1.00pm TPM: A foundation of Operational Excellence Join us for an insight into the 11 Step TPM Model developed by S A Partners. TPM is a system that unlocks the capability of people and machinery. Great TPM will provide a framework where physical assets are introduced, managed and retired with a plan for their full lifecycle. (read more) By implementing TPM you will improve your ability to deliver your products on time and in full; you will improve quality and reduce failure. It will also enable you to focus on the four zeros of world class manufacturing - Zero Waste; Zero Accidents; Zero Defects and Zero Breakdowns. Phil Spooner, Partner, S A Partners
Session 5 - 2.00pm UK and EU Product Compliance, 2022 and beyond - How the changes will affect all manufacturers Tim Harrison, MD, The CE Marking Association
Session 6 - 3.00pm Additive Manufacturing Landscape Prototype to End Use Parts 3D printing and additive manufacturing (AM) technologies are revolutionising the manufacturing world. As AM materials and technologies have advanced, 3D printed parts have progressed outside the research and development arena and onto the production line. To maximise the benefits of this transformational technology, many businesses must learn how to develop their facilities and business models. Many companies that engage with Additive-X are either new to AM - possibly deterred by perceived high entry costs of equipment or other companies that are looking to widen their AM capabilities. This talk by Kevin Askew will examine how to implement cost effective Additive Manufacturing, determining the right solution for your application and reducing the barriers to entry. Discussing a new case study from our innovative customer Labman Automation who are developing and producing concepts previously unattainable in the manufacturing world. You will learn about time and cost savings achieved as well as further benefits beyond the item itself by replacing traditional manufactured parts for 3D Printed equivalents. Kevin will also cover valuable advice about how companies like yours can implement 3D Printing in to everyday workflows to create realistic proofs of concept, high-fidelity prototypes and end use parts. Kevin Askew, Additive-X

We all possess a different set of neurocognitive abilities, whether neurotypical or neurodiverse, with a variety of skills and knowledge, resulting in strengths that can help add value to any organisation. In this enlightening lecture we will learn how we nurture a fully inclusive workplace, creating a conducive environment for us and our teams to truly succeed. Steve McCarthy, MD, Fenix Business Solutions Ltd

We look at the landscape of possible solutions and tools but, connect back to our Lean principles and our precious tactile washing lines and SQCDP boards. We introduce a system from Australia called TeamAssurance which is breathing new life into Lean Manufacturing and Operations Excellence - and is able to do this with sustainable high velocity - scalable across functions and sites - operator friendly and simple use. Nigel Whittingham, Principal Director, BBN Nexus Limited
Session 12 - 3.00pm HMRC R&D Tax Credits How you can claim, what you can claim for and how to reduce your tax.
THURSDAY 10TH FEBRUARY
Session 13 - 10.00am UK and EU Product Compliance, 2022 and beyond - How the changes will affect all manufacturers Chris Zivoder, The CE Marking Association
Session 14 - 11.00am Energy reduction in manufacturing This subject has risen and fallen in focus over the years, but there is no doubt it will be rising up the agenda of all manufacturers. That is if it is not already at the top, following the recent energy price hikes. Graham will dip into his experience of running a worldwide project on this topic for Agfa (reducing annual worldwide expenditure by €15 million) and on more recent experience conducting energy audits in UK manufacturers with Systems Excellence Ltd. He will show where many manufacturers have a blind spot for energy consumption and how to introduce methodical ways of driving consumption down. Finally, during his presentation he will also reveal an energy consultant’s secret application of some equipment most manufacturers already own, that is guaranteed to reduce energy consumption! Graham Cooper, MD, Systems Excellence Ltd
Session 15 - 12.00pm Managing a product safety incident - what equipment manufacturers need to know In the UK and elsewhere, legislation requires that manufacturers who place electrical and electronic equipment on the market ensure their products are safe and supported by information for correct use. Other requirements falling upon manufacturers include assessing for safety risks and engaging in corrective and preventive actions when product safety incidents occur. This presentation will discuss what manufacturers can do when they first suspect and then confirm a product safety incident. Actions can include engaging specialists to perform technical analyses as well as following relevant specifications like the UK’s PAS 7100 Code of Practice. Nick Aitken and Dr Alex Martin, Principal Consultants, RINA

Session 17 - 2.00pm Could metrology help us realise Industry 4.0? Even though the manufacturing industry has been aware of the term Industry 4.0 for over ten years, when visiting customers, we notice that very few manufacturers have taken the steps to fully digitalise their processes.
The UK manufacturing industry’s productivity lags behind our European counterparts, which many economists blame on lower rates of business investments than in other nations. This is due to change — according to a survey by Deloitte, 37 per cent of chief financial officers viewed capital spending as a priority for 2022. However, installing new equipment is not enough. Manufacturers need to create a list of pain points specific to their business, set some outcomes they want to achieve and effectively use the data they collect if they want to make the changes that will add real value to their business.
In his talk, Mike John, technical director and founder of industrial metrology supplier The Sempre Group, explains why the industry needs to shift its focus from technology to setting outcomes, how to use data more effectively and where quality management fits into Industry 4.0 adoption. Mike John, The Sempre Group
