The theme at this year’s show for 1st Machine Tool Accessories is ‘Don’t wait to automate’. The workholding and automation equipment specialist will show a sample of products for raising output and maximising return on investment from machine tools. The company believes that UK manufacturing needs to adopt a higher level of automation to achieve economical production but says a big investment in expensive robotics is not a prerequisite for success and often cannot be justified in smaller factories.


Automation can take many forms, for example, hydraulic, rather than manual, clamping, adding axes to three- and four-axis machining centres, choosing a full length magazine bar feeder and installing a full robotic machine tending system. Products showcased will include the Kitagawa QJR with quick- change chuck to reduce set-up


times and the Kitagawa BR for improved repeatability with T-Nut Plus (the new chucking standard). Visitors can also see V-Tech’s zero- point plates for quick-change pallet systems, Chick Workholding’s multiple component clamping for long machine running times and the Swift-Klamp for automated loading / unloading on machining centres. There will also be four four- and five-axis Kitagawa rotary tables, short, long and multi- spindle IEMCA bar feeds and for automating loading / unloading on both turning and machining centres, the Halter robots. A consultancy service can identify the optimum solution, either off-the-shelf or bespoke to address particularly difficult applications. Electronics equipment tracks trends


Some of the latest trends on the market will be demonstrated by Altus Group, a distributor of capital equipment for electronics assembly. 3D AOI and laser marking equipment will be highlighted, including Koh Young’s innovative Alpha HS+ 3D AOI. The system has the ability to inspect and provide quantitative measurement of components and extended inspection coverage for high height inspection helping to deliver the most accurate AOI inspection on the market, says the company. There will also be the YJ Link YLM laser marking cell which will be shown for the first time at a show in Europe. The system integrates fiducial recognition and internal flipper for a 20% cost saving. There is also a keymark camera helping to prevent the wrong PCB coming in and barcode verification and grading functionality as a key method to ensure consistent quality of marking performance.


Two CMMs will be the highlight of this year’s Aberlink. stand. The Extol and the Axiom both use the latest release of the Aberlink 3D CMM inspection software. The whole philosophy of the CMM software is to make measurement easy. Aberlink 3D software has been written by engineers for engineers and sets the industry standard for ease-of-use, says the company. The robust and reliable Extol CMM can run 24/7, positioned next to a


machine tool, in a manufacturing cell, or used in a dedicated inspection area. It automatically verifies the part quality of critical components. Used in conjunction with the Aberlink automation interface, the Extol CMM can run unmanned and autonomously. The Axiom too CMM is the company’s best-selling range of co-ordinate measuring machines. The lightweight construction and air bearing design allows the CMM to be fast and accurate in almost any thermally dynamic environment. Measuring volumes are available from 600 to 1500mm. The CNC version of the Axiom too offers maximum throughput, with a range of touch-probe options for access to difficult-to-measure features.
