2Describe how Luther’s Reformation led to other reformers
Other Reformers Luther’s opposition to the Catholic Church
encouraged other reformers in Europe. They challenged the Catholic Church and, in some cases, they set up their own churches.
John Calvin Calvin began his Reformation in Geneva. He founded the Calvinist or Presbyterian Church which spread to many countries. Followers of Calvin included Huguenots in France, Puritans in England and Presbyterians in Scotland.
Ulrich Zwingli Zwingli preached his views in Switzerland. He believed, like Luther, in the authority of the Bible. He did not set up a church or movement.
Henry VIII and the Reformation in England Henry VIII began the Reformation in England. He made himself Supreme Head of the Church of England and he closed the monasteries. His daughter, Elizabeth I, completed the English Reformation.

The English kings and queens introduced the same religious changes into Ireland. However, they failed to convert the vast majority of Irish people to Protestantism. It was mainly through the Plantations that the Protestant population grew in Ireland (Ch. 8).
