How was Leonardo da Vinci historically significant? Leonardo da Vinci was born in the village of Vinci, near Florence. He was apprenticed to Master Verrocchio. After he was trained he got work in Milan from the ruler, Ludovico Sforza. He painted The Last Supper while he was in Milan. Later, he worked in Florence, where he painted the Mona Lisa, and Rome. When Leonardo was older, he was invited to live in France under the care and protection of the King, Francis I. He died in France in 1519.
