Dartmouth Food Festival - 2021 New Business Award Winner THE FRESH FLOUR COMPANY


Founded in 2020 this small, innovative company produces products using organic and organic conversion Ancient and Heritage wheats, grown by local farmers within 3 miles of their own mill in Totnes, Devon.


Once milled the stone ground flour is produced into a range of hand-made Dried Pastas and Sourdough Crackers. All products are suitable for vegans and sealed in home compostable packaging using plant cellulose bags. The company currently employs three people but is recruiting four further locally based 18 to 24 year old workers linked to the Government Kickstart scheme. They also supply the Mazi project and Food in Community with pasta as part of their socially conscious outreach.


On winning the award, Andrew Gilhespy, founder of The Fresh Flour Company said “I’m delighted to have been chosen as the business most deserving of the The New Business Start Up Award 2021 from the Dartmouth Food Festival. This prestigious award is important economically and ethically for us. The judges have recognised that we are totally focussed on making amazing everyday products from sustainable sources.”
