90 SPONSORED BY PREMIER NOSS ON DART

Dart RNLI spent lockdown just like everyone else except if required to go to anyone’s rescue obviously the volunteers happily sprang into action – albeit with the added extra PPE to wear and covid guidelines to adhere to. During this time we also managed to recruit several new volunteers to the Dart RNLI family. These are some of them.

MARK ‘BEAMER” BANNISTER (Beamer = smiles a lot), joined when he arrived at BRNC to take up his post on the staff in September 2021. He is a Staff Officer married to Sophie who he met at Plymouth University and has two kids, Poppy and Percy. He is also a keen cyclist and runner, and has a love of food and wine and fortunately enjoys being by the sea. Beamer is one of our Shore Crew and Deputy Launch Authority (DLA).

CHRIS is an environmental physicist, and he works at the University of Exeter and with Defra designing tree planting and agricultural land use change schemes. He joined the lifeboats to get more involved in the local community and meet new people; he started out as shore crew and launch vehicle driver, before moving to the boat crew this year.

NIGEL joined Dart Lifeboat in June 2021 having relocated to Dartmouth from Lymington. He has been a keen sailor from a young age and enjoys cruising Mediterranean and Caribbean waters. Outside of the RNLI Nigel works in banking and enjoys the contrast of working for a large corporate organisation and volunteering for the Lifeboat. Nigel served with the Royal Air Force Regiment for 10 years after leaving school. Nigel is shore crew and tractor driver for launching the D-Class lifeboat.

TATTY escaped London and the corporate world in 2018 to re-train as an Outdoor Instructor. She moved to Dartmouth in 2020 and joined the RNLI in April 2021, starting off as Shore Crew helping with launch and recovery of the boat and then progressed to Boat Crew in September 2021. Tatty loves everything to do with the water and is lucky enough to call the River Dart her “office” teaching paddleboarding and kayaking, as well guiding walking, swimming and cycling tours around Devon & Cornwall.

So that’s a snippet of just some of our new volunteers who are all helping to maintain the lifeboat station and ability to come to the rescue if required. As you can see, people come from all walks of life and we are very lucky that they chose Dartmouth RNLI to offer their services.
