ucked away in the beautiful South Hams, FSC Slapton Ley Field Centre is revving
up to host a celebration of all things environmental Slapton Ley National Nature
Reserve makes up a large part of the Start Bay area, in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Behind part of this fifteen mile stretch of magnificent coastline lies the largest natural freshwater lake in the South West, protected from the sea by a shingle ridge and surrounded by ancient woodland, reed beds and marshes. It is home to otters, dormice and bats as well as a multitude of wildflowers, birds, lichen and fungi. The Field Studies Council is a national environmental education charity which runs Slapton Ley Field Centre for field studies and adult courses, as well as managing the reserve for wildlife and people. The Field Centre hosts an annual
celebration of this unique site and this year ‘Celebrate Start Bay’, being held on Sunday 21st

promises to be bigger and more varied than ever before.
