usual drinks, there are goodies like bacon sandwiches, croissants, cakes and other treats. It’s part of the Mangos chain and seems to be doing a roaring trade since it’s a very pleasant place to sit and refresh yourselves and meet with others. It is rumoured that a liquor licence has been applied for too.

New, new Shop! After not having had a shop for so

long, along come two, like buses! I reported on the re-opening of the shop in the last edition of this page, but since then things have moved on apace. The folks who took on the shop have moved and we now have new shop keepers called Shaline and Jatheeshanan. They have another shop in Torquay and this one is going to be mainly Shaline’s project I am told. When I interviewed

Jatheeshanan he was busy re- stocking the shop with all sorts of useful stuff, like local meat and veg, frozen goods, a coffee machine, sandwiches, hot pies and pasties, vegetables, fruit and even flowers, and lots of other stuff not yet unpacked. It looks like it’s going to be one very well-stocked shop, which is great news for the village. Jatheeshanan is in the process

of completely re-fitting the shop so I am sure you will join me in wishing both he and wife Shaline the greatest success in their new venture.

Jubilee Well, wow, what a whopper!

Thanks to the efforts of several of our parish councillors, and numerous other very well-involved residents the Kingswear Jubilee celebrations for the Queen’s 70th anniversary of her reign were fabulously successful. Attendance at all the events was superb – who’d have thought there were

so many of us lurking round the place – and everything that had been organised - the beacon lighting, tea party, church service and the splendid picnic in the park (except it wasn’t, it was in the halls!) all went really well. This, of course, was thanks to the seriously hard work of people like Jonathan Hawkins, Lynne Maurer, Gary Webber, Ed Jones and their many dedicated followers. They did the village proud and I suspect Kingswear can hold its head up high alongside almost any other village in Britain in supporting its cause. Many, many photos were taken of the events and these will appear in due course on the internet, on the village’s websites, so I do not propose to select any to go with this article this time. Can I ask everyone reading this

to personally thank Jonathan, Lynne, etc. when they see them, or by email of course. They have given us a very, very good time and some splendid memories.
