wenty years ago, a group of friends – theatre


enthusiasts all – were having a drink in The Cherub and one of them (our current Artistic Director, as it so happens) had the idea of putting on a Shakespearean production and using Dartmouth Castle as a backdrop.


Little did that current


A.D. realise that she had just committed the next twenty years to producing, directing, making costumes for and generally looking after what was to become The Inn Theatre Company. It seems obvious to say – but


we’ll say it anyway – but the last couple of years have been somewhat…fraught? Difficult? Worrying and exasperating? All of the above…plus some? BUT, we’re back up at the castle in 2022; back


in our spiritual home and back where it all began. And we couldn’t be more delighted and excited. To celebrate Dartmouth Shakespeare Week’s (and by association, Inn Theatre’s ) 20th Anniversary, we are presenting probably one of Will’s greatest and most contentious tragedies: that of Hamlet – Prince of Denmarke. We weren’t at the castle in 2020, but we


did make a film that year, at the castle, and you can still see it on our Youtube Channel. Last year we produced ‘The Comedy of Errors’ but, for safety reasons, we transferred to a local recreation


ground in Stoke Fleming. So as you can imagine, to be bringing you Hamlet in the grounds of such an amazing castle is something that we’re incredibly proud to be able to do. As a company, we have


achieved an astonishing amount in a relatively short space of time. We’ve been affiliated to the Royal Shakespeare Company (our patron
