INTERVIEW Q&A Dr. Soenke Moehr,

Director of Global Sales, Marketing and Communications, Puraglobe

Tell us a little about yourself, and your experience in the lubricant industry. Well, I’m the head of global sales and marketing for PURAGLOBE. And I’ve been in the industry for about 25 years.

After completing my doctorate in chemistry, I developed automotive and industrial lubricants for ESSO Lubricants Europe, and later assumed managerial roles. I then moved to the US to work for ExxonMobil in 2000, during the merger. After several years there, I came back to Europe and was the head of regional business for Northern Europe for Lubrizol.

I suppose all of that is typical — but I’ve always been driven toward developing something transformational, something to tell my grandchildren about, something good for the environment, for our resources, and for our children.

Is that what led you to PURAGLOBE? It was certainly part of the attraction, especially since PURAGLOBE is focused on innovation and sustainability. For example, our CEO Andreas Schueppel, is keen on supporting strategies that leverage innovation and sustainability in synergistic ways. And it’s part of everything we do at PURAGLOBE, from producing sustainable base oils, to innovating with graphene nano-molecules for example, and everything else in between.

PURAGLOBE seems to have been innovating for a while, can you explain a bit more? After years of development, PURAGLOBE began operating the world’s first refinery based on Honeywell UOP HyLube™ technology in 2004. I came on board several years ago, when PURAGLOBE was looking beyond HyLube™ technology, and started developing HyLubeSAT™. Today, we deliver sustainable, Group II base oil products. And we’re using HyLubeSAT™ to develop sustainable Group III and III+ products and solvents and formulation technologies — which for me, are quite transformational.

Speaking of transformations, I’ve heard PURAGLOBE is helping customers forge success in the “Fourth Industrial Revolution.” Indeed, much like “Industry 4.0,” we’re experiencing a fourth industrial revolution.

One that transcends mechanisation, assembly-lines, and digital automation, and concerns more about “why,” “when,” and “how efficiently” we make things, such as with AI (Artificial Intelligence). This partly explains why we’re using “Zero-Waste Refining” to produce sustainable base oil products — and enable even greater efficiencies and competitive advantages in the marketplace, which are part of our global CARE FOR CLIMATE®

initiative, as well.

What is the CARE FOR CLIMATE® CARE FOR CLIMATE®

initiative about? is about promoting sustainability, and enabling our strategic partners to produce

sustainable, finished lubricants that help reduce CO2 emissions — based on NSF verification. And with the exclusive CARE FOR CLIMATE®

emissions. seal on their products,

such as with fuel-economy engine oils, they can show their commitment to reducing CO2

PURAGLOBE also sponsors the CARE FOR CLIMATE®

Racing Team, the winner of the AT class at the 24-hour race at Nuerburgring, with their Porsche Cayman GT4, is that right? Yes, and we’re proud to sponsor the CARE FOR CLIMATE® Racing Team - especially since they won while running with PURAGLOBE SYNTAINICS® Racing Oil and DCT Fluid on board.

We also sponsored the penz13.com motorcycle racing team at the 24 Hours of Le Castellet “Bol d’ Or” in 2017. They won the EWC Class, running with a PURAGLOBE SYNTAINICS®

for racing motorcycles. And we’re thrilled that finished lubricants made from our sustainable Group III base oils were used by the winning teams of two world-renowned endurance races.

One last question: what are three things you check in the morning? Admittedly, I check our social media stats, perhaps a bit too much. But that’s part of creating awareness about how our sustainable base oils and solvents enable sustainable supply-chains - and lucrative product strategies - while being cost-effective, to boot. I also work closely with our expert production and operations teams, and routinely check the status of our straight-cuts and custom orders. And I also review the notes I make while listening to our customers, which matters for today - and for developing the sustainable innovations we need for tomorrow...
