After the coffee break Lou A. Honary, President of ELM, Inc., lectured on ‘Innovation in Manufacturing Grease: Microwave Based Reaction’. This was followed by David DeVore of Functional

Products Inc,. talking about ‘Biobased Polymer Additives for Environmentally Friendly lubricants – Tackifiers’. This was co-authored by Erik Willett and Dan Vargo, also of Functional Products Inc.

One of the main benefits of holding the AGM in an ever expanding list of European countries, is to enable the ELGI to reach out to the industry as well as to provide a transportable platform on which the industry can easily connect.

Regular attendance of the ELGI AGM is recommended as you will visit different European countries enabling easy access to your international connections.

Kenneth Holmberg Professor VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland

After the morning break, Shell’s Olav Höger, by the way he is the Chair of the Test Methods & Rheology WG, gave an in-depth paper on ‘Future Developments in Lubricating Grease’. Next up was George Dodos from Eldons, he is the Chair of the Bio-Based Greases WG, and he delivered his lecture (co-authored by Mehdi Fathi-Najafi of Nynas) on Oxidation Stability Parameters as Novel Monitoring Tools for a more Robust Grease Production.

The third morning paper was presented by Johan Leckner (co-authored by René Westbroek) both of Axel Christiernsson International AB on the subject of ‘Polypropylene – a Novel Thickener Technology with many Surprises’. After lunch Jason T. Galary of Nye Lubricants talked about ‘Determination and Analysis of Bearing Corrosion using Machine Vision and Computational Algorithms’.

Then Yanqing Gao of Sinopec delivered his presentation on ‘The Impact of the Degree of the Solvency of Naphthenic Oils on the Structure of Lithium Complex Greases’ (co-authored by: Lanying Zhang and Zhiying Liu).

Facts and Figures Over the past 29 years, ELGI has visited 20 countries in total, with only a few more than once: Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Finland, France (3), Germany (3), Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy (2), Netherlands (2), Norway, Portugal (2), Scotland, Spain (3), Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and United Kingdom. See the destinations map.

Attendance is now at a regular 300+ peaking every five years. And since ELGI’s inception in 1989, more than 6,600 delegates have attended the ELGI AGM. See the attendance chart.
