Suzy Jarman Editor of Lube - Retires

Suzy joined UKLA in 2009, when Rod Parker and Christine Abbott were running the UKLA Office in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, UK. Rod wanted a directory for European lubricant companies to be created. Suzy was selected for the role as her background in databases, sales, marketing and market research were a good fit. ELID was made!

Suzy then became the Sub Editor in 2012, making Lube go digital (also Rod’s goal). He retired at the end of 2012 and she became Editor from the beginning of 2013.

Suzy took up the baton from Rod, who’d brought on the magazine from small beginnings to a flourishing and well-read, glossy, interna- tional publication. Since then, the Lube Media Office has come along even further, with many more initiatives, from the introduction of regular features such as the LUBE Local Report, to the launch of Lube Library; the complete online archive of Lube Magazine.

Suzy: “Over the last few months, and very recently, my personal circumstances have changed significantly, and therefore I need to be at home.

I’ve had an amazing time in my job – meeting interesting people, being part of the EuropaLub project and not forgetting the strong ties with UEIL as well as the conferences. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time looking after LUBE. I give thanks to the advertisers, article providers and the readers. Very big thanks go to Laurie McHale who helped me to achieve my ambition – Lube Library.

During my time working for UKLA contributing to Lube Magazine, ELID, the Lube-Media website as well as the lubricants industry, I have:

• designed, created and populated ELID • made Lube Magazine go digital • set up regular publishing of the Local Reports • expanded the conference media partnerships • made Lube-Tech go digital • devised Lube Library (a 2-year project) • worked significantly on the EuropaLub project • grown Lube and leave it in good health.

I am still in communication with some of you so please don’t forget to say “Hello”.

I hope to continue with my scuba diving passion. I’ve already organised a trip to Ireland, I just need to implement it. I dive around the UK as well as abroad. The UK waters, though more challenging with temperature, currents and visibility (viz), are just as interesting and colourful as the warmer waters in hot countries.”

Here are a few kind words from well-wishers ...

“Suzy is an extremely driven and passionate person, who I know from first-hand experience gives her all to every edition of Lube Magazine. I have learned a great deal from Suzy working with her over the last two years and wish her all the best for the future.” Laurie McHale, UKLA Media Assistant

“It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you over the last 5 years - it is quite incredible what you’ve managed to accomplish with Lube.” James O’Brien, YUDU

“Working with Suzy to produce Lube Magazine was so much fun, these eight years have flown by” Colin Donoghue, Ascender Media

“You have done a terrific job with LUBE and it is always a pleasure to work with you.” Peter Vickers, Vickers Oils, UK

“The pleasure was all mine, working with a professional, friendly and warm-minded person like you!” Karin Quicken, Anderol Europe

“Here is a big thank you for your cooperation in these past 4 years. There are very few people I can say I learned from during my time with UEIL, and you are definitely one of them. Your advice, your permanent state of good mood, your insight into the industry – were all valuable elements that greatly contributed to the success of the association’s activities during my stay with them, with a particular focus on the congress and your work in putting together programmes with me for the past couple of events.” Nuno Loureiro, past UEIL

“It has been a true pleasure working with Suzy. Her enthusiasm, hard work and passion for the industry, have been an invaluable asset for UEIL.” Valentina Serra-Holm, UEIL President

“Suzy did an amazing job for improving Lube magazine from the technical and graphical point of view. She has also been so generous and well prepared to help with the EuropaLub statistics project and I’m so grateful to Suzy for all the efforts she spent in favour of Lubricants divulgation as well as in favour of the UEIL Association and EuropaLub. She has been a pillar of our industry communication and it seems to me quite unrealistic not seeing her anymore in the Congresses around the World as well as in the Annual Meetings.” Fabio Dalla-Giovanna, UEIL Honorary President
