ELGI 29th
Annual General Meeting 2017 Helsinki, Finland
The ELGI Board found the perfect location for the ELGI’s 29th AGM international event: Helsinki. Fresh, smart and modern: one of Europe’s fastest growing and developing cities, ideal for their theme: ‘Innovation’: The Future of Grease Lubricants. The Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa was the accommodation and conference venue – contemporary and a great setting.
The progressive 2017 ELGI AGM was attended by 307 delegates from 28 countries, and played stage to 14 international speakers, across both commercial and technical disciplines. The in-depth sessions and panel discussions focused on topics that are currently of significant importance to the industry, as well as exploring how to adapt to the changing global market, and key trends influencing the sector.
Saturday 6th May: exhibitors arrived to set up their stands and the registration desk was opened. Sunday 7th May: more exhibitors arrived and the ELGI Board Meeting was held. Throughout the day the five ELGI Working Groups were held: Grease Particle Evaluation WG, Food Grade Lubricants WG, Test Methods & Rheology WG, Railway Lubricants WG and Bio-Based Greases WG. of the working groups is rapidly growing: in total 212 delegates were present at the five WGs. Attendance is highly recommended as cooperative input is constructive. The findings of these five WGs were to be presented first thing on the Monday morning. Sunday evening the ELGI hosted a Welcome Reception for all.
Monday 8th May: Terry Dicken the ELGI Chairman, addressed the meeting announcing two new ELGI initiatives for this AGM, more on those later. Delegates were encouraged to not switch off their mobile phones (!) to enable them to use the
sli.do interactive live poll system allowing them to vote and pose questions to the speakers.

Survey was delivered by their President Dave Como. ELGI initiative No.1: for the first time ever at ELGI, there was a presentation for the CLGI given by their President Ray Zhang.
