titles that have hit the Indie Top 50. While that is a similar count to the 17 members of the category that appear in the TCM Top 50, there is a crossover of only six titles – including Chloe Dalton’s ( 1) Raising Hare, which has been the most popular Non-Fiction title across the indies in these six months. Dalton’s memoir, longlisted for

Raynor Winn ( 2) The Salt Path Penguin, £10.99, 9781405937184 Winn’s The Salt Path saw its sales nosedive following allegations in the Observer at the beginning of July regarding its veracity. It appears in fourth place in the indie ranking for this six-month period, but that is likely due its sales prior to the media investigation. At its peak week it was selling more than 7,000 copies, but those sales dropped to a low of 147 by the beginning of October.

Angela Harding Summer’s Hum Sphere, £12.99, 9781408721933 Harding is the only author to feature in the Indie Bookshop Top 50 more than once – with two of her seasonal quartet, Summer’s Hum and Falling into Autumn, appearing over 400 places higher than their full market ranking. The four volumes in the series combined have exceeded 25,000 units and are set to be evergreen sellers for indie bookshops.

the Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction in 2025, also appears at the top of the equivalent UK-wide ranking, taking fourth place. Similarly, Charlie Mackesy’s Always Remember takes third place with indies and second in the TCM, proving that some books are universally popular. Not so for Robert Macfarlane’s

Is a River Alive? – it just misses out on the TCM Top 50 by fewer than 600 copies – but takes second place in the Indie Top 50. It is one of four Natural History titles that takes a slot in the Indie chart, three more than in its nationwide counterpart. The category that over-indexes

the most with indies though, is History, whether it be ancient, military, global or local. There are just four appearances in the UK Top 50 – compared with 11 in the Indies, led by Ben MacIntyre’s The Siege in ninth place.
